When to go

The beach-day index peaks in April–September; May scores 8.8/10 with highs of 25 °C, sea at 23.7 °C and 71 mm of rain.

In May that is 0.9 points above the median of the 659 beaches in Brazil covered by this atlas.

At its warmest the water here is 1.3 °C cooler than the Brazil median for February (27.0 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 23.4 °C, warmer than 72% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

December is the wettest month (232 mm) and August the driest (42 mm); the yearly total is about 1,470 mm.

Daylight runs from 10.7 hours in June to 13.5 hours in December; in mid-May the sun rises at 06:19 and sets at 17:20 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south-south-east (155°). Open water fills about 61% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.

The sun sets over the sea in October–February; in mid-December it goes down at 18:35 local time on a bearing of 244°.

Sunrise is over the sea in every month.

Straight out to the south-south-east there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 13 m deep and 23 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 175 m above sea level 500 m inland and 200 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.

Within 1 km, the land is 88% tree cover, 5% grassland and 5% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 56% of that circle.
