When to go
The beach-day index peaks in January–March; February scores 7.6/10 with highs of 26 °C, sea at 17.3 °C and 3 mm of rain.
In February that is 0.6 points above the median of the 204 beaches in Chile covered by this atlas.
At its warmest the water here is 1.1 °C warmer than the Chile median for February (16.2 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 14.7 °C, cooler than 76% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
June is the wettest month (70 mm) and January the driest (2 mm); the yearly total is about 280 mm.
Daylight runs from 10.0 hours in June to 14.3 hours in December; in mid-February the sun rises at 07:22 and sets at 20:37 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west-north-west (285°). Open water fills about 17% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.
The sun sets over the sea in March–October; in mid-June it goes down at 17:46 local time on a bearing of 297°.
Straight out to the west-north-west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 34 m deep and 115 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 58 m above sea level 500 m inland and 177 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.
Within 1 km, the land is 56% tree cover, 23% built-up land and 9% shrubland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 25% of that circle.

- Built 23%
- Shrub 9%
