Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north (355°). Open water fills about 44% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in April–August; in mid-June it goes down at 18:00 local time on a bearing of 294°.

Sunrise is over the sea in May–July.

The opposite shore is only about 3.0 km away to the north, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 8 m deep and 11 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 38 m above sea level 500 m inland and 107 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 72% tree cover, 24% grassland and 3% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 49% of that circle.
