Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north-north-west (330°). Open water fills about 58% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 20:11 local time on a bearing of 296°.

Sunrise is over the sea in May–August.

Straight out to the north-north-west about 800 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build. The beach is on an island of about 103,518 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 14 m deep and 122 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 4 m above sea level 500 m inland and 0 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 73% built-up land, 13% grassland and 8% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 74% of that circle.
