Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south-south-west (200°). Open water fills about 19% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 242° to 300°, behind the land.

The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the south-south-west, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves. The beach is on an island of about 9,297 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 7 m deep and 55 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 49 m above sea level 500 m inland and 107 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 55% built-up land, 22% grassland and 14% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 10% of that circle.
