When to go

The beach-day index peaks in July–August; August scores 9.5/10 with highs of 31 °C, sea at 23.5 °C and 20 mm of rain.

In August that is 1.5 points above the median of the 625 beaches in France covered by this atlas.

At its warmest the water here is 1.4 °C warmer than the France median for August (22.1 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 17.6 °C, cooler than 60% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

November is the wettest month (109 mm) and July the driest (14 mm); the yearly total is about 630 mm.

Daylight runs from 9.0 hours in December to 15.3 hours in June; in mid-August the sun rises at 06:40 and sets at 20:39 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north-north-west (330°). Open water fills about 25% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in May–August; in mid-June it goes down at 21:15 local time on a bearing of 304°.

The opposite shore is only about 8.0 km away to the north-north-west, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves. The beach is on an island of about 13 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 12 m deep and 24 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 23 m above sea level 500 m inland and 2 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 77% tree cover, 15% grassland and 5% shrubland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 34% of that circle.
