Across the year the sea averages 9.7 °C, cooler than 91% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

August is the wettest month (74 mm) and April the driest (34 mm); the yearly total is about 670 mm.

Daylight runs from 7.4 hours in December to 17.2 hours in June; in mid-August the sun rises at 05:47 and sets at 20:45 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west-north-west (300°). Open water fills about 36% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in February–November; in mid-June it goes down at 21:45 local time on a bearing of 314°.

Straight out to the west-north-west the next coast is roughly 120 km away, so waves are mostly wind-driven sea rather than ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 3 m deep and 8 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 6 m above sea level 500 m inland and 8 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 67% tree cover, 15% wetland and 10% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 34% of that circle.
