When to go
The beach-day index peaks in June–September; July scores 9.5/10 with highs of 32 °C, sea at 24.8 °C and 13 mm of rain.
That matches the median for beaches in Greece in the same month.
At its warmest the water here is 0.5 °C warmer than the Greece median for August (25.6 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 20.2 °C, warmer than 63% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
December is the wettest month (113 mm) and August the driest (9 mm); the yearly total is about 690 mm.
Daylight runs from 9.7 hours in December to 14.7 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 06:24 and sets at 20:53 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west-north-west (290°). Open water fills about 31% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 20:53 local time on a bearing of 300°.
Straight out to the west-north-west about 300 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build. The beach is on an island of about 21,689 km².
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 22 m deep and 89 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 0 m above sea level 500 m inland and 0 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.
Within 1 km, the land is 47% tree cover, 31% grassland and 13% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 68% of that circle.
