When to go

The beach-day index peaks in July–August; July scores 9.3/10 with highs of 29 °C, sea at 24.4 °C and 38 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in Italy in the same month.

At its warmest the water here is 0.7 °C cooler than the Italy median for August (25.8 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 18.5 °C, cooler than 53% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

November is the wettest month (117 mm) and July the driest (38 mm); the yearly total is about 790 mm.

Daylight runs from 8.9 hours in December to 15.5 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 05:51 and sets at 21:03 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south-south-west (210°). Open water fills about 19% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.

The sun sets over the sea in November–January; in mid-December it goes down at 16:43 local time on a bearing of 238°.

Straight out to the south-south-west about 800 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 38 m deep and 75 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 110 m above sea level 500 m inland and 395 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.

Within 1 km, the land is 69% tree cover, 21% shrubland and 7% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 22% of that circle.
