When to go
The beach-day index peaks in June–September; July scores 9.6/10 with highs of 29 °C, sea at 24.5 °C and 23 mm of rain.
That matches the median for beaches in Italy in the same month.
At its warmest the water here is 0.5 °C cooler than the Italy median for August (25.8 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 18.7 °C, cooler than 51% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
November is the wettest month (104 mm) and July the driest (23 mm); the yearly total is about 670 mm.
Daylight runs from 9.1 hours in December to 15.3 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 05:53 and sets at 20:56 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces south-east (140°). Open water fills about 19% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.
At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 238° to 303°, behind the land.
Sunrise is over the sea in November–February.
Straight out to the south-east about 1,200 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build. The beach is on Elba, an island of about 225 km².
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 23 m deep and 62 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 4 m above sea level 500 m inland and 35 m at 1.5 km.
Within 1 km, the land is 32% grassland, 31% tree cover and 27% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 40% of that circle.
