Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north-north-east (20°). Open water fills about 36% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 241° to 301°, behind the land.

Sunrise is over the sea in April–September.

Straight out to the north-north-east about 500 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build. The beach is on an island of about 25,102 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 17 m deep and 125 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 12 m above sea level 500 m inland and 46 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 55% built-up land, 23% grassland and 8% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 52% of that circle.
