When to go

The beach-day index peaks in July–August; July scores 9.8/10 with highs of 27 °C, sea at 23.6 °C and 6 mm of rain.

In July that is 0.3 points above the median of the 925 beaches in Italy covered by this atlas.

At its warmest the water here is 1.1 °C cooler than the Italy median for August (25.8 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 18.4 °C, cooler than 54% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

November is the wettest month (96 mm) and July the driest (6 mm); the yearly total is about 570 mm.

Daylight runs from 9.3 hours in December to 15.1 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 06:07 and sets at 20:57 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south-west (215°). Open water fills about 44% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in August–April; in mid-December it goes down at 17:00 local time on a bearing of 240°.

Straight out to the south-west about 500 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build. The beach is on an island of about 23,536 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 10 m deep and 31 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 2 m above sea level 500 m inland and 9 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 50% grassland, 19% tree cover and 14% cropland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a mixed, lightly developed setting. Water makes up 75% of that circle.
