The opposite shore is only about 3.0 km away to the east, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves. The beach is on an island of about 23,320 km².
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 13 m deep and 14 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 15 m above sea level 500 m inland and 11 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.
