When to go

The beach-day index peaks in July–August; July scores 9.6/10 with highs of 26 °C, sea at 25.9 °C and 21 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in Italy in the same month.

At its warmest the water here is 1.3 °C warmer than the Italy median for August (25.8 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 19.9 °C, warmer than 62% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

December is the wettest month (128 mm) and July the driest (21 mm); the yearly total is about 930 mm.

Daylight runs from 9.5 hours in December to 14.9 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 05:45 and sets at 20:24 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north (5°). Open water fills about 56% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.

The sun sets over the sea in March–September; in mid-June it goes down at 20:25 local time on a bearing of 301°.

Sunrise is over the sea in March–October.

Straight out to the north the next coast is roughly 120 km away, so waves are mostly wind-driven sea rather than ocean swell. The beach is on an island of about 13 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 356 m deep and 892 m at 3 km, so deep water starts close to shore. Behind the beach the ground is about 170 m above sea level 500 m inland and 513 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.

Within 1 km, the land is 79% tree cover, 10% grassland and 9% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 55% of that circle.
