Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces east (90°). Open water fills about 3% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 228° to 316°, behind the land.

Sunrise is over the sea in March.

The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the east, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.

Within 1 km, the land is 46% tree cover, 32% bare ground, sand or rock and 20% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a mixed, lightly developed setting. Water makes up 4% of that circle.

Cold water all year

The sea peaks at 18.9 °C in August. Most swimmers find water below 20 °C cold; a wetsuit is common here.
