When to go
The beach-day index peaks in November–March; February scores 9.7/10 with highs of 31 °C, sea at 27.9 °C and 7 mm of rain.
In February that is 0.5 points above the median of the 345 beaches in Mexico covered by this atlas.
Across the year the sea averages 29.1 °C, warmer than 97% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
September is the wettest month (290 mm) and December the driest (3 mm); the yearly total is about 1,190 mm.
Daylight runs from 11.1 hours in December to 13.1 hours in June; in mid-February the sun rises at 07:06 and sets at 18:41 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces south-south-east (160°). Open water fills about 25% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 246° to 295°, behind the land.
The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the south-south-east, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.
The sea floor is still within the shallow coastal margin 1 km out; 3 km offshore the depth is about 35 m. Behind the beach the ground is about 101 m above sea level 500 m inland and 195 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.
Within 1 km, the land is 93% built-up land and 6% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach.
- Built 93%
- Tree 6%
