Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north-north-east (15°). Open water fills about 28% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 246° to 294°, behind the land.

The opposite shore is only about 5.0 km away to the north-north-east, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 9 m deep and 19 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 74 m above sea level 500 m inland and 8 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.

Within 1 km, the land is 85% bare ground, sand or rock and 15% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 40% of that circle.
