When to go
The beach-day index peaks in January–June; February scores 8.6/10 with highs of 28 °C, sea at 21.8 °C and 25 mm of rain.
In February that is 0.8 points above the median of the 340 beaches in Peru covered by this atlas.
Across the year the sea averages 18.9 °C, warmer than 51% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
March is the wettest month (39 mm) and June the driest (2 mm); the yearly total is about 190 mm.
Daylight runs from 11.7 hours in June to 12.5 hours in December; in mid-February the sun rises at 06:24 and sets at 18:43 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west (260°). Open water fills about 47% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 18:11 local time on a bearing of 293°.
Straight out to the west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 5 m deep and 9 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 7 m above sea level 500 m inland and 6 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.
Within 1 km, the land is 59% built-up land and 40% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 44% of that circle.

- Bare 40%
