When to go
The beach-day index peaks in January–April; February scores 8.1/10 with highs of 23 °C, sea at 21.5 °C and 5 mm of rain.
In February that is 0.3 points above the median of the 340 beaches in Peru covered by this atlas.
Across the year the sea averages 18.8 °C, warmer than 51% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
February is the wettest month (5 mm) and April the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 20 mm.
Daylight runs from 11.4 hours in June to 12.8 hours in December; in mid-February the sun rises at 06:07 and sets at 18:37 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west (275°). Open water fills about 39% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 17:50 local time on a bearing of 294°.
Straight out to the west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 4 m deep and 12 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 59 m above sea level 500 m inland and 66 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.
Within 1 km, the land is 84% built-up land and 12% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 46% of that circle.
