Across the year the sea averages 18.5 °C, cooler than 53% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

October is the wettest month (62 mm) and July the driest (24 mm); the yearly total is about 470 mm.

Daylight runs from 9.2 hours in December to 15.1 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 06:34 and sets at 21:27 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces east (100°). Open water fills about 25% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 239° to 302°, behind the land.

Sunrise is over the sea in every month.

Straight out to the east there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 10 m deep and 35 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 23 m above sea level 500 m inland and 41 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 39% built-up land, 25% tree cover and 25% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 27% of that circle.
