Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south (185°). Open water fills about 50% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in October–March; in mid-December it goes down at 16:17 local time on a bearing of 238°.

Sunrise is over the sea in October–February.

The opposite shore is only about 5.0 km away to the south, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 68 m deep and 61 m at 3 km, so deep water starts close to shore. Behind the beach the ground is about 93 m above sea level 500 m inland and 343 m at 1.5 km, so the beach is backed by steep slopes or cliffs.

Within 1 km, the land is 58% shrubland, 24% built-up land and 14% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 54% of that circle.
