When to go
The beach-day index peaks in July–August; July scores 9.5/10 with highs of 29 °C, sea at 24.2 °C and 28 mm of rain.
In July that is 0.3 points above the median of the 158 beaches in Croatia covered by this atlas.
Across the year the sea averages 18.6 °C, cooler than 52% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
November is the wettest month (123 mm) and July the driest (28 mm); the yearly total is about 910 mm.
Daylight runs from 9.0 hours in December to 15.4 hours in June; in mid-July the sun rises at 05:26 and sets at 20:32 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces south (185°). Open water fills about 61% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.
The sun sets over the sea in August–April; in mid-December it goes down at 16:18 local time on a bearing of 238°.
Sunrise is over the sea in September–April.
The opposite shore is only about 5.0 km away to the south, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves. The beach is on an island of about 394 km².
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 69 m deep and 82 m at 3 km, so deep water starts close to shore. Behind the beach the ground is about 45 m above sea level 500 m inland and 256 m at 1.5 km, with hills rising behind it.
Within 1 km, the land is 48% tree cover, 21% shrubland and 15% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 65% of that circle.
