Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces north-north-east (30°). Open water fills about 42% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 229° to 314°, behind the land.

Sunrise is over the sea in March–October.

Straight out to the north-north-east the next coast is roughly 80 km away, so waves are mostly wind-driven sea rather than ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 6 m deep and 13 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 1 m above sea level 500 m inland and 4 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 43% tree cover, 40% grassland and 12% built-up land (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 46% of that circle.
