When to go

The beach-day index peaks in December–February; January scores 9.7/10 with highs of 29 °C, sea at 28.3 °C and 1 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in India in the same month.

Across the year the sea averages 28.6 °C, warmer than 93% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

July is the wettest month (922 mm) and January the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 3,360 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.3 hours in December to 12.9 hours in June; in mid-January the sun rises at 06:57 and sets at 18:22 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west (270°). Open water fills about 47% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 18:58 local time on a bearing of 294°.

Straight out to the west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 3 m deep and 8 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 12 m above sea level 500 m inland and 15 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 58% tree cover, 21% built-up land and 14% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 50% of that circle.
