Across the year the sea averages 18.5 °C, cooler than 53% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

November is the wettest month (80 mm) and July the driest (4 mm); the yearly total is about 470 mm.

Daylight runs from 9.4 hours in December to 15.0 hours in June; in mid-September the sun rises at 07:06 and sets at 19:37 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west-south-west (250°). Open water fills about 47% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 20:56 local time on a bearing of 302°.

Straight out to the west-south-west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell. The beach is on an island of about 23,971 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 16 m deep and 20 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 9 m above sea level 500 m inland and 25 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 54% cropland, 34% grassland and 5% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a rural setting among farmland. Water makes up 56% of that circle.
