When to go
The beach-day index peaks in June, September and January–March; February scores 8.3/10 with highs of 30 °C, sea at 28.3 °C and 116 mm of rain.
That matches the median for beaches in Malaysia in the same month.
Across the year the sea averages 29.4 °C, warmer than 100% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
November is the wettest month (271 mm) and February the driest (116 mm); the yearly total is about 2,320 mm.
Daylight runs from 12.0 hours in December to 12.3 hours in June; in mid-February the sun rises at 07:24 and sets at 19:27 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west-south-west (240°). Open water fills about 42% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 19:18 local time on a bearing of 293°.
Straight out to the west-south-west the next coast is roughly 30 km away, so waves are mostly wind-driven sea rather than ocean swell.
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 11 m deep and 34 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 11 m above sea level 500 m inland and 15 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.
Within 1 km, the land is 51% tree cover, 35% built-up land and 12% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 50% of that circle.
