When to go

The beach-day index peaks in February–March and May–September; February scores 8.0/10 with highs of 28 °C, sea at 28.9 °C and 159 mm of rain.

In February that is 0.3 points below the median of the 141 beaches in Malaysia covered by this atlas.

Across the year the sea averages 29.6 °C, warmer than 100% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

November is the wettest month (322 mm) and June the driest (142 mm); the yearly total is about 2,560 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.9 hours in December to 12.3 hours in June; in mid-February the sun rises at 07:28 and sets at 19:29 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west (270°). Open water fills about 47% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 19:23 local time on a bearing of 293°.

Straight out to the west the next coast is roughly 120 km away, so waves are mostly wind-driven sea rather than ocean swell.

The sea floor is still within the shallow coastal margin 1 km out; 3 km offshore the depth is about 3 m. Behind the beach the ground is about 6 m above sea level 500 m inland and 6 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 72% tree cover, 14% built-up land and 11% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 48% of that circle.
