When to go

The beach-day index peaks in February; February scores 9.3/10 with highs of 29 °C, sea at 28.7 °C and 25 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in Thailand in the same month.

At its warmest the water here is 0.5 °C cooler than the Thailand median for May (30.4 °C).

Across the year the sea averages 29.1 °C, warmer than 97% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

September is the wettest month (326 mm) and February the driest (25 mm); the yearly total is about 2,380 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.7 hours in December to 12.6 hours in June; in mid-February the sun rises at 06:45 and sets at 18:37 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west-north-west (292°). Open water fills about 64% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 18:44 local time on a bearing of 294°.

Straight out to the west-north-west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell. The beach is on an island of about 520 km².

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 10 m deep and 25 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 22 m above sea level 500 m inland and 41 m at 1.5 km.

Within 1 km, the land is 70% tree cover, 22% built-up land and 4% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 62% of that circle.
