When to go
The beach-day index peaks in June and September–October; September scores 8.4/10 with highs of 32 °C, sea at 20.4 °C and 4 mm of rain.
In September that is 1.0 points above the median of the 2,466 beaches in United States covered by this atlas.
At its warmest the water here is 1.9 °C cooler than the United States median for August (22.5 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 17.5 °C, cooler than 61% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
February is the wettest month (63 mm) and June the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 290 mm.
Daylight runs from 9.9 hours in December to 14.4 hours in June; in mid-September the sun rises at 06:34 and sets at 19:00 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces south-west (225°). Open water fills about 28% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.
The sun sets over the sea in October–March; in mid-December it goes down at 16:45 local time on a bearing of 242°.
The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the south-west, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.
The sea floor is still within the shallow coastal margin 1 km out; 3 km offshore the depth is about 10 m. Behind the beach the ground is about 23 m above sea level 500 m inland and 22 m at 1.5 km.
Within 1 km, the land is 84% built-up land, 9% tree cover and 5% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach.
