Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south (190°). Open water fills about 19% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.

At no time of year does the sun set over the sea here: sunset bearings run from 243° to 298°, behind the land.

The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the south, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 10 m deep and 21 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 7 m above sea level 500 m inland and 0 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 47% built-up land, 30% grassland and 15% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 27% of that circle.
