When to go
The beach-day index peaks in July–October; August scores 8.6/10 with highs of 30 °C, sea at 20.2 °C and 1 mm of rain.
In August that is 0.5 points above the median of the 2,466 beaches in United States covered by this atlas.
At its warmest the water here is 2.3 °C cooler than the United States median for August (22.5 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 17.2 °C, cooler than 63% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
February is the wettest month (75 mm) and June the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 330 mm.
Daylight runs from 9.9 hours in December to 14.4 hours in June; in mid-August the sun rises at 06:14 and sets at 19:41 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces west (265°). Open water fills about 17% of the horizon close by, which makes it a sheltered cove or bay.
The sun sets over the sea in August–May; in mid-December it goes down at 16:46 local time on a bearing of 242°.
The opposite shore is only about 500 m away to the west, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves.
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 30 m deep and 88 m at 3 km. Behind the beach the ground is about 44 m above sea level 500 m inland and 33 m at 1.5 km.
Within 1 km, the land is 92% built-up land and 5% tree cover (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 11% of that circle.
