When to go
The beach-day index peaks in April–May and October–November; April scores 9.1/10 with highs of 27 °C, sea at 23.0 °C and 63 mm of rain.
In April that is 5.9 points above the median of the 2,466 beaches in United States covered by this atlas.
At its warmest the water here is 7.6 °C warmer than the United States median for August (22.5 °C).
Across the year the sea averages 24.4 °C, warmer than 75% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.
August is the wettest month (252 mm) and November the driest (49 mm); the yearly total is about 1,440 mm.
Daylight runs from 10.4 hours in December to 13.9 hours in June; in mid-April the sun rises at 07:07 and sets at 19:55 local time.
Orientation, sun and shore
The shore faces north-north-east (33°). Open water fills about 67% of the horizon close by, which makes it an exposed spot with water on most sides.
The sun sets over the sea in August–May; in mid-December it goes down at 17:38 local time on a bearing of 244°.
Sunrise is over the sea in every month.
The opposite shore is only about 3.0 km away to the north-north-east, which keeps the water sheltered from big waves. The beach is on an island of about 5 km².
About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 1 m deep, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 2 m above sea level 500 m inland and 0 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.
Within 1 km, the land is 80% built-up land, 14% bare ground, sand or rock and 4% grassland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 64% of that circle.
