When to go

The beach-day index peaks in November–January; January scores 9.6/10 with highs of 31 °C, sea at 27.6 °C and 1 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in India in the same month.

Across the year the sea averages 28.3 °C, warmer than 92% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

July is the wettest month (426 mm) and January the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 1,550 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.2 hours in December to 13.0 hours in June; in mid-January the sun rises at 07:04 and sets at 18:22 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west-south-west (255°). Open water fills about 50% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 19:06 local time on a bearing of 294°.

Straight out to the west-south-west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 7 m deep and 13 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 16 m above sea level 500 m inland and 14 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 46% built-up land, 42% tree cover and 8% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): an urban beach. Water makes up 49% of that circle.
