When to go

The beach-day index peaks in November–January; December scores 9.6/10 with highs of 30 °C, sea at 28.1 °C and 3 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in India in the same month.

Across the year the sea averages 28.3 °C, warmer than 92% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

July is the wettest month (516 mm) and January the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 1,890 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.2 hours in December to 13.0 hours in June; in mid-December the sun rises at 06:53 and sets at 18:06 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces west-north-west (285°). Open water fills about 44% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 19:05 local time on a bearing of 294°.

Straight out to the west-north-west about 1,200 km of open sea lies before the next coast, enough for large swells to build.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 5 m deep and 6 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 7 m above sea level 500 m inland and 9 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 48% tree cover, 39% built-up land and 7% bare ground, sand or rock (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a partly built-up setting. Water makes up 46% of that circle.
