When to go

The beach-day index peaks in November–January; December scores 9.5/10 with highs of 31 °C, sea at 28.2 °C and 3 mm of rain.

That matches the median for beaches in India in the same month.

Across the year the sea averages 28.3 °C, warmer than 92% of the coastal beaches in the atlas.

July is the wettest month (712 mm) and January the driest (1 mm); the yearly total is about 2,420 mm.

Daylight runs from 11.2 hours in December to 13.1 hours in June; in mid-December the sun rises at 06:54 and sets at 18:06 local time.

Orientation, sun and shore

JunDecNESW

The shore faces south-west (230°). Open water fills about 42% of the horizon close by, which makes it an open stretch of shore.

The sun sets over the sea in every month; in mid-June it goes down at 19:06 local time on a bearing of 295°.

Straight out to the south-west there is open water for more than 2,000 km, so the beach is exposed to long ocean swell.

About 1 km offshore the sea is roughly 6 m deep and 9 m at 3 km, a shallow, gently shelving sea floor. Behind the beach the ground is about 7 m above sea level 500 m inland and 7 m at 1.5 km, a flat coastal plain.

Within 1 km, the land is 64% tree cover, 24% grassland and 5% cropland (satellite land-cover map, 2021): a largely natural setting. Water makes up 57% of that circle.
